Question How to Install OpenOffice PROPERLY??


Hi i am a newbie to Linux... I am Using Slackware Linux 10.2 with Dropline GNOME 2.12.2.. I've downloaded the OPEN OFFICE Installer file OOo_1_1.1.4_LinuxIntel_install1.tar.gz ... but i don't know how to install it.. can anyone please help me!!!

Please, let me know in which way I should install the software to have the SHORTCUTs on Application Menu and how to sign Open Office as default for relative works??

Best thing to do...
Go to www.linuxpackages.net, and get the Open Office package, then, su to root, and run installpkg
Code:
~$:su
password:
~#:installpkg oowhatever.tgz

One of our developers builds an OpenOffice.org package here:

http://trovao.droplinegnome.org/extras/ooo/

It's tailored for Dropline GNOME, and is quite refined (includes some of the Novell patches as well). You can install it with Slackware's standard tools as well "installpkg/upgradepkg".

I think that this was built for 2.12.x, even though our current stable release of Dropline GNOME is 2.14.1.
