how to install off a cd
how do u install a program off a cdrom... note cdrom drive is mounted at /mnt/cdrom
just cant find which program runs the install process..

Which distribution do you have? Is it the CD ROM which contains your distro or another?

it's redhat linux 2.0, and the software is not the distro... it's just a program i need installed... im new to linux completely, so i dont know which files are the executables, etc.. just dont know how to run the install, or if u do it from the terminal.

Wow, very old version of RedHat.
If the file has a RPM extension (.rpm), then you can use the rpm command:
Code:
rpm -iv package_name
If it has a .bin extension, then you can simply execute the file.
However, you may need to copy the file to the HD and set the permisions to execute.

this is what the cd has when i browse it:
a bunch of *.8** files ie: cca5.803
lscar
update.isi
update
upd.lst
newvers
oldvers
prodlist
relsize
ok so where would i copy these to, and/or how to install (install -i.... in terminal)?

First, you need to find out what type of files you have on the CD ( or at least the one that is executable).
The file command can tell you what type the file is, for example:

well i copied the contents onto the drive... and there are less files now... all the .8** files went away, and i checked the remaining files. "lscar" is the only executable... but not sure how to execute it... all the others are ASCII except one is "English text"
