How to install MySQL in fedora 13?.

I want to install MySQL in fedora 13. The Software is in .tar file. How do i install that soft in linux. I need step by step instruction to install it. please teach me hw to install it. thank you.

Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,

What 'special' features do you need from MySQL that makes you want to install it from source? Assuming the tar file you have is the source code. In other words why don't you use the package manager to do the work for you and thus avoiding lots of problems with dependencies that are not installed? Just exececute:

Code:

yum install mysql mysql-server

and that'll get you the latest stable version available from the repositories you have configured, install them and put in place the basic configuration.
