What are the steps to be followed for installation any site where I get the player with proper installation steps which works for me?

Good music/media players are:
MPlayer - http://www.mplayerhq.hu
Xine - http://www.xine-project.org
AmaroK - http://amarok.kde.org/

All web pages contain installation instructions and all players are capable of playing back MP3-files.

Fedora 9 is no longer supported; I think you will have a difficult time updating your system and installing new applications unless you install the current release.

I like the Rhythmbox player. To install it (and mp3 support) in the current Fedora 13, I would type:

Code:
yum install rhythmbox gstreamer-plugins-ugly
ps in Linux we do not typically download and install applications from "any site," rather, we install from a "repository" of tested and trusted applications by using the "package manager" (which is "yum" in Fedora). http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Tools/yum

(edit: please read JoeJoe's comment below about enabling the "rpmfusion" repository!)

First of all get fedora 13!!
second "yum install gstreamer-plugins-ugly" will install you codecs(decoders, the thingy that transforms computer data into sound) will be installed. But this isn't in default fedora repository because mp3 belongs to somebody and that asshole want everybody to pay for using it, since there is copyright problems they cannot add it to default fedora repository.

Enable the rpmfusion repository(google it, enabling is very easy!), and do "yum install gstreamer-plugins-ugly" also f13 comes music player called totem, you can also install other player with "yum install <player name here>" for exampled if you wanna install VLC player type "yum install vlc" and it automatically installs

Good luck and welcome to linux

this link is a fedora beginners bible, explains how to install lots of stuff, including mp3 codecs players, flash player, media players, truetype fonts, Java RE, acrobat reader even samba.

however the repos listed on that very old mjm page for the DEAD fedora 9 may nolonger work -- because fedora9 is past END OF LIFE

install fedora 13 or use a LONG life distro like CentOS 5.5 ( or the non free RHEL 5.5 )
