How to install linux without a CD-ROM?

I searched the forums and I have found some information here, but not exactly what I need. I suppose it is possible to insert the cd in a CD-ROM on a computer which I am in network with and boot from it, right? The question is how... I just need a few hints or links, because I couldn't find any useful information on the web.
I suppose it doesn't matter which distribution I try to install, but I would like to install FreeBSD, if it does matter.
Thank you.

Not sure if that will work. But it appears there's an option for ftp install which you could boot from a floppy.
