how to install lilo

hey gang,

my buddies computer's bootloader got **** I'm using knoppix to try and bring his cpu back to life and I thought, "if its just the bootloader then why dont i install lilo?" I checked his HD, everythings there, but I got no clue on how to install lilo on his master boot record, without installing knoppix onto his PC.. can someone please post a quick guide?

keep note I'm using knoppix

In knoppix, mount his drive (his root partition) somewhere, for example /mnt/hda1
As root do:

chroot /mnt/hda1
(and assuming his lilo.conf file was OK and all you need to do is write lilo back to the MBR...)
