well kickstart is a file that you edit to install the OS with packages/users/timezone/language/etc. You would create a kickstart script with what you wanted installed on the server and it would install everything so you can leave the install unattended. So you dont have to sit there and choose options to install.

What is it you are trying to do?

Currently, when I install RH5 it does not appear that quickstart is installed so I am wondering how do I install quickstart.

As ncsuapex said, what is it you're trying to do? Are you trying to set up one of your RedHat servers to be a Kickstart server? Kickstart automates the install process, so you can 'cookie-cutter' servers out.

I am looking for the Kickstart Configurator tool that is allegedly available as a package for System Tools. During the RH5 install I could not find the kickstart configurator package and thusly cannot run that tool to generate a ks.cfg file outside of the auto-generated one at install time. I want to be able to generate ks.cfg at will and not by hand.

You can still generate a kickstart scipt by hand, it's just a text file with your kickstart options. There are hundreds of tutorials on the web to do that.
Here is one for CentOS but the commands are the exact same for RHEL5
http://www.centos.org/docs/5/html/5....art2-file.html

If you want the package then you'll need to install
system-config-kickstart.noarch

do a:

Quote:
yum search kickstart
and you'll see it, then do a:

Quote:
yum -y install system-config-kickstart.noarch
