That laptop is a "spare/back-up". I will put it back in the mothballs today and maybe I will NEVER touch it agian. I have another one running Windows 7 that works just fine.The spare one with Linux/Lubuntu works just fine with Gimp too...except that the last 8 or 9 tool's icons dont show but... they are there and when you hover over them, their name appears and you know exactly what you got. I can live with that... if I EVER have to use it again.
I would have known it was such a pain in the ass to install a new program of my choice in Linux, I would never have ask the question. In Windows, it's such a breeze to do just that. Thanks to all that did participate.

If you already have Gimp 2.6 downloaded on your system than just cd to the directory that the package is in and use the dpkg -i <name of pkg> command with elevated privileges to install it.

As you already know the current stable version of Gimp is 2.8.

Looking in the repo's and the Gimp website I couldn't find Gimp 2.6.

You can try this but you should think about it first before doing so.
Air on the side of caution as it could make a mess of your Lubuntu install.

I found some tarballs of 2.6.xx here, in case you weant to try that route. I also found 2.6.12 in a .deb package here, which might be easier, however, either way, you most likely will run into dependency issues which may or may not be resolved, as 2.6 was last offered on Ubuntu 12.04 (as far as supported version go.)

Hi! Idon't have Gimp 2.6 right now. I was stuck with 2.8 but did remove it right now. I went to Google and did search for installing GIMP 2.6 in Ubuntu. There was a few threads about this and some (most likely one) were really simple but out of the 4 steps, the first 2 command prompt wouldn't work.

Yesterday, my access to the Internet was really bad so I couldn't finish my search but it seems that installing a portable Ubuntu compatible Gimp 2.6 ( or even 2.4) on a thumb drive would be the easiest solution.

Did you install gedit? If not, that's probably why the second command didn't work. Lubuntu does not include gedit by default. For the first, can you post the error you received when you tried it?

I agree with hydrurga's suggestion to swap to a Linux-friendly graphics card, if at all possible.

You know what...3 days ago I had Gimp 2.8 on this laptop and it was working just fine ( no tearing) with ""that graphic card"" so... The problem...to have that, I was running Linux Lite 1.0.8 and my screen resolution wasn't right. Only Lubuntu 14.04 provide me with my native resolution 1280 X 800.

To get rid of the fact the tool box in Gimp 2.8 is not opening completely. The last 4-6 icons aren't showing...they are covered by a zebra like pattern.

What's the point of writing that? I know you can find legitimate version of many old Gimp but...you can't f...... install them in Lubuntu. The only one that install is 2.8 .

I won't try complicated recipe as I don't know much about that stuff. I'm with Linux for a big 2 weeks so I just barely discovered how command promt work...but barely.

That's odd, could you open a file manager window and navigate to that location and tell us what's in there?
