How to install and uninstall packages in zenwalk/slackware

I recently installed zenwalk on my Pc having finaly got too annoyed with ubuntu and need some info on how to install and uninstall packages.
I've got the package manager working but it doesn't have all the packages i need so need to know how to install from seperate slackware files.

I thunk i've got installing

su -c tar xvf Where-my-file-is.tgz

This seems to install it fine but i'm wondering, is there a more efficient way of doing this and how do i then uninstall without having to delete each individual file

This page explains how to manage Slackware packages. What you are doing above appears to be extracting the archives without actually installing.
