How to import a DV tape from a DV recorder ?

The connection is by IEEE 1394.

I've got a sony DV recorder and want to import the avi file from it .

However, it seems that Ubuntu does not recongize the DV tape and , what software should I use to import it ???

the cam should just auto mount then copy it off the mounted " new device"

It depends, sometimes you can mount it, sometimes you may have to use dvgrab.
