How to Get Hotmail messages without browser?

I'd like to be able to get my hotmail messages without using a browser (I use Mozilla). I have been using Evolution and really like it. Is there a way to get it to download my hotmail messages? If not, is there another program that is better for e-mail? I like the weather settings and headline reading from Evolution, which is why I'm hoping to get hotmail to work with it if it is possible. Thanks!
