How to format a memory stick with Gparted?
Good day Linux users, I want to use Gparted to format a 4 gb memory stick, ready for Unetbootin. I am using Mint. I can find the stick with Gparted, but cannot find the format option. How does it work?
I also tried Accessories "Disks" but the format would not go with this reading:
"Error synchronizing after initial wipe: Timed out waiting for object (udisks-error-quark, 0)".

With GParted, you highlight the partition on the flash in the main window, click Partition tab and mouse down to Format to and select the filesystem type.

Thanks, then I could format it after I deleted the partition and made a new one. But then Unetbootin could not find it.

You shouldn't have had to delete a partition to format it.
Maybe the mount or not mount is causing the issue with unetbootin. May have to eject and replace.

You first need a partition to format whether it is the entire flash or part of it then the steps above. First it needs to be unmounted or you will probably get an error in GParted. The flash also needs to be plugged in before you open unetbootin. Don't know what else you would need. Maybe the flash is bad?

You shouldn't need to format the drive to use unetbootin. Unetbootin uses a standard FAT32 format. But if you did format the drive, you have to remount it, since it had to be unmounted in order to format it. On most distros, just unplugging the drive and reinserting it should do the remount, but it doesn't always work that way, depending on the settings.
