How to exchange vesa wrestler with radeon driver in Ubuntu-14.04

I did a fresh install of the trusty tahr on my netbook (specs in my signature). It starts with the vesa wrestler graphics driver -- excruciatingly slow. Resolution is wrong too, so I don't see some parts of popping up windows... I want to change that and use the radeon driver.

I'm unfamiliar with Ubuntu. How would I go about that? I looked into system settings -> software but found no clue, not even how to search for it. fglrx is not found either in the main screen search facility (dash?).

Any pointers would be appreciated.

Solved. Wrong parameters during boot (GRUB2). Will be back and give details, must go for no. Quick solution: Copy the relevant stanza from the initial grub.cfg (written during installation) to your own /etc/grub.d/ files and make changes as appropriate (if necessary at all).

Thanks for reading .
