How to enlarge NTFS partition from Linux?

I cloned my old hard disk of 12Gb to a new one of 200Gb and now i have a new partition of 12Gb on my new disk of 200Gb.

Now i want to enlarge this partition to full 200gb. It is NTFS.

I have Knoppix 3.7 and need help on how to do that.

I see partition from Knoppix as dev/hda1

Can somebody help me stepBystep to finish this task?

Thanks

This is the sort of thing that comes with a big red warning so:
1) Backup your data
2) Check that your data is backed up
3) Double check that your data is backed up
4) Try using ntfsresize from ntfsprogs:
http://linux-ntfs.sourceforge.net/
5) If it works you're done, if it doesn't...
6) Delete the small partition and create a new one
7) Format the new partition
8) Restore the backup you made in step 1.

hi

Im on step 4.

Ntfsresize stated that I have to delete partition using linux fdisk and than recreate it but use full space for new one and after that use NTFSRESIZE to make it all NTFS.

That first step with fdisk I dont understand.
What command is to delete partition and what command is to create it again?

Knoppix has a GUI partitioning tool called qtparted. If you aren't comfy using the command line, then I recommend trying qtparted.

hi

OK as found on ntfsresize web site they say that I have to delete existing partition and than create new one that will use all available space.

I did it like this:

fdisk /dev/hda
d

It deleted partition.

Than i executed

n

and set it to use all available space

after that i make that partition active and executed

w

It saved and create partition sucesfull!

next

I executed fllowing command

ntfsresize /dev/hda1

it resized my partition

================================================

I tried to start Windows and it boot but right after XP logo it pop-up message that autochk missing ....

I also executed chkdsk /p to fix NTFS but it did not solve the problem.
(I did Windows defragment before all this.)

================================================

Question:

Is this error because i did not clone drives using ntfsclone??? (I used third party tool)
Does anybody see what else I missed there?

(Note: before resizing my cloned partition was ok and i could load Windows)

Thanks all!

Did you remember to set the partition type to 7 ( ntfs ) ?
Go into fdisk and execute t
Then select the partition which Windows is on
Select 7 for ntfs
Then select w to write the changes.

How is it possible that autochk missing? It's supposed to run chkdsk /f for extra safety. Just do a chkdsk /r and boot should be fine.

Your NTFS is marked for filesystem check but the tool is apparently isn't installed on the computer. The /p parameter of chkdsk is a read-only test and won't remove the mark for a mandatory read-write check.
