HOW TO:enable totem and vlc to play avi files

Ive installed vlc player(using yum) but it does not play avi files.
when playin avi type files on totem it says "Video codec 'DivX 5' is not handled. You might need to install additional plugins to be able to play some types of movies"
while playin flash type of files it says Video codec '0x0' is not handled. You might need to install additional plugins to be able to play some types of movies.
what should i do to resolve the totem issue.
right now i wont be able to tell the error vlc is givin,is there anything i can do to solve this?

well, since you are using yum you should be using some distro based in RH (fedora, suse, etc) what u need are the codecs to play those formats. A quick search on lq show me this post in there, a post show another link ponting to where u can get the codecs in rpm format.

Hope it helps
