How to edit .Xclients in RH Linux 7.2

Unfortunately my RH Linux 7.2 does not come with any desktop environment and I have to use the text method.
How can I edit the .Xclients?

whatever editor you prefer... pico, nano, jove, vi, emacs, vim...

Hi,
Well, I have no desktop environment to make editing easy. Treat me as a complete Linux idiot, can you tell me step by step how to use text inout method to edit .Xclients
Thanks

they ARE text based editors, that's why i named them.

[user@host user]$ pico .Xclients

vi .Xclients

i [enter]

*do your edits and when finished*

[esc] :wq

cat .Xclients

*this should show the file you just created*
