How to edit JPG files?

I have 0 knowledge of how to edit a jpg file.
is it possible to edit text within a jpg?
If I had a jpg 800x600 with a banner with text in it, can I edit that text?
Thanks!

I'm afraid you can't. A string in a jpeg image is not really a string. You have to edit the image using GIMP or eventually create the image again from scratch.
