how to download with meta4 file?

Hi guys,

I am downloading openSuse, and as its a big file, my 2 hr download has been reseted by the server once last night.

Then at the mirror page, I found meta4 files that claims reliable and self-healing downloads.
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...iso?mirrorlist

But how does this meta4 file works really? I have no clue on how to use them.

Thanks in advance!
Chinho

You might learn as much about this 'metalink' stuff from reading about it and perhaps downloading a metalink client, as you would if someone familiar with it comes by and explains it.
I'm not familiar with it myself, but the mirror service used for your SuSE downloads is provided by MirrorBrain, and if you go to their page, scroll halfway down ( this page: http://mirrorbrain.org/features/ ) to read about metalink generation. There is an embedded link there, which takes you to the actual metalinker site ( link: http://metalinker.org/ ) where you read about the technology, and apparently you can download a metalink client, presumably for use with the meta files you are considering. I figure complete instructions would come with that client application.

check out aria2 (command line) or DownThemAll! (Firefox Addon).

those are the best.

example

1) the command is aria2c
2) after the command you (cut and paste) the link to the file with extension meta4

example:
open a terminal and type:

aria2c https://download.opensuse.org/tumble...rent.iso.meta4
.....
.....

Soon you will see the progress bar in % downloading 4.3GB of an iso file
Wait wait
then you will get statistics and the location where the file was saved.
