How to disable mouse middle-clicking in KDE/X11
Well, I hope someone can help.

I've a USB mouse with a scroll wheel. Unfortunately, the wheel also is the middle button of the mouse, and in X11 / KDE / Gnome a middle click pastes the content of the clipboard. Since the wheel has got dirty, a lot of times I've to apply pressure on it (and it's uncleanable... :( ), and so it happens I unwillingly click the button. Inside a Web browser, it means that I change the page I'm viewing almost everytime I scroll it.

Well, the question is: how can I disable the "middleclick/paste" association? It's going annoying, also because Mozilla uses the middle click to open a new tab.

Thank you a lot for any answer!

"how can I disable the "middleclick/paste" association?"

I am not certain but you might be able to tell X Window that the middle button does not exist. On SuSE I would run sax2 and see if I could configure the mouse as a two button mouse with scroll wheel.

I don't know about X but I think for Mozilla, there is something you can do.

in the URL bar. It will give you a whole list of configurations. Scroll down to
I think it's something with loadURL. Just look. There aren't that many entries beginning with middlemouse. Double click on the entry. You'll get a pop up window where you can edit the value. Change it to false (assuming the current value is true). Restart mozilla and see if it worked.

I thought that "middlemouse.paste" to "false" should do the trick, but it doesn't work... any idea? Maybe it's Klipper, the problem? (dunno, just guessing)

wasn't there a middlemouse.loadurl? I'm using firebird now and in firebird, its loadurl.

tried with middlemouse.contentLoadURL, it works on firebird. still watching for some workaround also for konqueror, but it isn't essential...

thank you all !!

Couldn't you just set the mouse to be a "two button" and have "3 button emulation" ....That way you could still have 3 buttons by pressing both down and the middle button shouldn't do much.

"will it keep my scroll wheel working?"

I don't know. You are the guinea penguin in this case.
