How to disable gnome weather applet?

I recently noticed regular outbound communications from my CentOS 6.4 box to weather.noaa.gov. I don't use any weather programs and would rather completely disable this function, but I haven't been able to figure out for sure which app it is. I am guessing it is the gnome weather applet doing this to check the current weather. I don't currently have the weather app on my gnome desktop, but I've tried adding and removing it or just adding it to access to preferences, but I don't see anything in the preferences about this. Any ideas on how to completely disable this so it no longer requests weather data from noaa?

If you installed gnome-weather using a package manager, use the package manager to remove the package. Otherwise, remove the contents of the gnome-weather directory under /usr/share and/or under ~/.local/share. The directory may exist in one or both locations.

I don't have gnome-weather installed. The only thing even close is libgweather and when I try to uninstall it yum wants to remove gdm as a dependency. I don't think gnome will function at all without gdm so I'd rather not remove it.
