The idea that always missing is the regex engine that the tool use.
Sed AWK or Grep if you notice there is a slight difference between them.
The BRE engine
The ERE engine

BRE patterns like this:

$ echo "Testing regex using awk" | awk '/regex/{print $0}'
ERE engine like this:
