how to define MONITOR in Fedora Core 10
I just installed FC10 from scratch (after being stupid enough to attempt an upgrade from FC9, which trashed my entire setup anyways!). My monitor isn't auto-detected (it's a Proview 17G), so my max screen resolution is 800x600. There doesn't appear to be a setting in "Preferences / Hardware / Screen Resolution" to be able to define the monitor. Where do I specify my monitor type, so that I can get my display up to a more usable resolution? I'm sure there was a button in FC9 in the "Screen Resolution" that allowed you to select the monitor type...but alas, not in FC10. Or am I just overlooking the obvious somewhere?

via command line then you can edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
|
no file
That file doesn't exist:
[root@localhost X11]# ls applnk fontpath.d prefdm xdm xinit Xmodmap Xresources [root@localhost X11]# grep -i monitor */* [root@localhost X11]# grep -i monitor * [root@localhost X11]# pwd /etc/X11 [root@localhost X11]# find / -name xorg.conf -print [root@localhost X11]# No xorg.conf anywhere in on the drive. I have both Gnome and KDE installed, though Gnome is my default manager. BTW, what does the "All your base are belongs to us" mean in your .sig? I have a Compaq desktop that has this line on the screen during POST. I found it curious to see it elsewhere. |

lol too funny :-) the fun answer is here... http://www.allyourbasearebelongtous.com/flash/ the definition is here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_you...e_belong_to_us its stupid i know but its a lot of fun, you will notice it everywhere. Over the years it has made it into every piece of code that i have written, website, every ghost image... Its my favorite easteregg |
Oh BTW i checked my F10 system and there is no xorg.conf in /etc/X11 on mine either. Strange, it has always been there.
but fear not I did find on another site http://fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=204921 this for a suggestion $ su -c "yum install system-config-display" |
works
That works great. Thanks for the help.
BTW, also thanks for the explanation of that line. That is hilarious. :) I can't believe I haven't seen the source for it before now. |
