How to customize Nautilus toolbars

Can anyone tell me how or if it's possible to customize the Nautilus toolbars?
I want to remove all except the back/forward buttons, including the zoom buttons, "view as" box and the word "location" and move the location bar onto the same toolbar as the nav buttons.
I've found some xml files in /usr/share/nautilus and managed to remove up, stop, reload, home and computer but I can't work out how to remove the back/forward dropmarkers or do the other stuff.
