How to create a plugin for wireshark?

As I don't have the smallest idea of how to create a plugin, I'd like a suggestion of where to start, what should I read, etc, in order to save some time.

well you need to read the wireshark developer lists and such, as you're asking such a specific question you need to speak them, not us.

Ok, I'll do that. But maybe if the question is a bit more general, you can help me out a little bit more. What are the must steps, in your view, to create a plugin for an application in Linux?
