Question How to copy the content of a DVD into several CDs?


What is the procedure to copy the entire contents of a DVD (Linux Distribution DVD) into several CDs?

Do you want the image useable? If not, (ie: you're purely looking for an archive) then you can use split and cat. If you want the CD bootable, and then to ask you for the additional disks, you'll need to rewrite the installation scripts and just store the additional programs (RPMs, whatever) on CD.

I have collected a Mandrake 10.1 DVD but I do not have any DVD writer. I have DVD ROM and CD Writer. To have this Mandrake Distro, I need to copy the contents of the DVD into several CDs but I do not know how to do this.

You have mentioned a good point, the first CD Must be bootable too to start installation procedure, and the remaining ones also be linked so that, in case of installation of softwares in future, it asks for the correct number of the CD.

Haha, now I think it may not be possible, because there are a lot of internal procedures whch can be done during the packaging time. Still as I have already raised the thread and if it is possible, I am interested to know the answer because the need is acute.
