How to convert mp3 to alaw or wav?

Is there any free tool that can convert mp3 to alaw or wav? Better if it runs on linux ditribution and would someone know what bitrate is needed for it to be played on asterisk? Thanks.

soundconverter (gnome) or soundkonverter (kde) are good if you like a GUI. If you know the format needed you can change bitrate etc. during conversion.
I've also used Audacity on individual files to convert to higher sampling and bitrates.

You can just use lame to convert it to wav. You can also use sox if it has mp3 support.

ffmpge also possible

You can also use ffmpeg from the ffmpeg.org group. It supports several conversions and is well supported by the organization.
