How to convert from proprietary MrSID (.sid) to GeoTIFF ?

I tried "mrsiddecode" which has limit 65000 pixels
and "MrSid Viewer" (thru Wine) which exports only up to 4GB.

My .sid file is about 500MB (20GB uncompressed, 120000 by 70000 pixels)

Do you have any suggestion for a conversion tool from .sid to .tif ?

why not just use GDAL
http://www.gdal.org/frmt_mrsid.html

or qgis ( uses gdal)
http://planet.qgis.org/planet/tag/mrsid/

@John VV: Actually I was looking for a tool, preferably for GNU/Linux, not a registration-SDK-compilation procedure.

Trying to avoid LizardTech's SDK, I have found

Downloaded MrSidDecodeFast.zip , unzip and run the following command which produced a quite large file.
Code:
wine MrSidDecodeFast.exe -i myfile.sid -o myfile.tif -tiff

To compress it I used the next command
Code:
gdal_translate -co COMPRESS=JPEG -co PHOTOMETRIC=YCBCR -co TILED=YES myfile.tif myfile_JPEG_YCBCR.tif
A 64MB .sid file was converted successfully to a 1.1GB uncompressed TIFF and then to 103MB compressed TIFF.

Unfortunately an 165MB .sid file when converted to an 6.5GB uncompressed TIFF, was unreadable by GIMP.
Clarification: QGGIS Browser couldn't open the resulting TIFF file and gdal_translate command shows "ERROR 4: `myfile.tif' not recognized as a supported file format."

gimp 2.8 only supports 8 bit depth images
most geo-referenced geotiff's are 16 bit SIGNED data

nor can gimp 2.8 handle jpg2000 format

gimp 2.8 can not read those

nip2 can
and the development gimp 2.9.3 can

and gmic can ( up to 4 gig file size)
and Qgis can
