How to connect to a remote printer?

Hi! I am using Mepis 6.0. I do connect to LAN using OpenVPN. My network is on 10.0.10.0 255.255.255.0. I would like to connect to the Windows samba-shared unit having an IP of 192.168.0.201. When I scan in the network, I can't see the remote network. How am I going to print?

Your printer is in a different net and your scan (broadcast) doesn't leave your own network.
Try to configure the printer share with ip and share name. If this don't work, maybe a firewall is blocking the traffic?

Okay, how do i do it? I mean, should I still use samba shared? How about cups? Should I install cups server for Windows? How does lpp differ from samba shared printer? Thanks.

Okay, two things:
You need something to manage your printers on the local machine, no matter if they are local connected or network printers. I prefer CUPS for this job. Second thing is, configure your printer, network printers, local connected and so on.

You may use Samba our Cups, whatever you like.

A Samba setup without domains and such uses only broadcast packets for discovery.

To be a little more clear, you either need to setup a WINS-type server with Samba or setup a CUPS server. In either case, you need the server to be accessible from both networks.

Yes, but if you know the IP and sharename you can configure your printer by entering them.

You need a cups server on your local machine and have to setup a new printerqueue type windows via SAMBA. The network has to be accessible, that is right. But access and broadcast is quite different.
