How to confirm if Guarddog is running -and - What is runlevel S

I've install guarddog on Debian and configured it, making very sure that the Disable Firewall box is unchecked.

However, while running sysv-rc-conf, noticed that the guarddog service from 0-6 is unchecked, only level S is checked.

Googled quite a bit but is unable to find what level S is

So ,
is guarddog running on startup ?
and what is runlevel S ?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Does that mean guarddog is not started upon startup?

As I havent used a debian distro in ages im not sure how to interpret its sysv-rc-conf
but You can easily verify if the process is running by typing
ps ax
and looking for its name in the output (just to be sure you see all processes invoke this command while You are root)

Does Guarddog need to be running for it to protect my computer?

Guarddog provides a user friendly way of configuring your computer's built-in firewalling capabilities. Guarddog itself doesn't need to be running continously to protect your computer.
So it seems that guarddog is only a frontend to iptables so it will not run continuously but will be used to setup rules in iptables
