how to configure vpn?

i have a vpn for work purposes and like anything in windows, all i ever have to configure is the host, username and password.

can anyone help me configure a vpn connection from a linux machine to the work server? i have played around a bit with shrew soft vpn on a linux mint install but when trying to bring up the tunnel, negotiation times out

hamachi is another free vpn that works both on linux and windows maybe that would work?

i noticed this is from logmein. you dont have to have a logmein server running on the host do you? (like logmein standard)

im just trying to vpn in to an already configured and working server
