Hello guys, for some reason, I cant get Yast2 to work with my laptop to configure my settings, it always craches when saving the settings I give it. Now, I know there must be some way I can configure my sound card, and my ethernet cardusing the command line, but dont I know what it is!!!

Which sound card? Is YAST crashing on one config or either one. For the sound card, try loging as root and run 'alsaconf' to configure the sound card. Don't know enough about your problem particulars to help you here though. Is it SuSE upgrade that's giving you headaches? Do you know at least which driver you need? What does the relevant section of dmesg say?

You can use yast a ncurses based CLI. It is set up just the way the yast2 gui is. Good luck.

My sound card (under 9.3) is installed without roblem with yast. Now on 10, when I click on edit (to configure) the program jams until I reboot my computer... the rest of my OS is working, but yast is not responding. I dont think I need special driver, just be able to run the congif file without the gui.

As for my internet, the same thing happens except that I get to configure it, but it crashes when it writes the changes to the file.

No, just open a terminal. Login as root (type "su" and then the root password). Then type "yast." Then bob's yer' uncle! That should do it!

Fine it works... well the "yast" command, but havent had any luck with getting it to save the settings. It still crashes like yast2.

To boot my computer I had to use the BrokenModules=yenta_socket switch.... do you think that might interfer, and might be the problem as to why it cannot save my sound configuration? Cause on 9.3 everything was working fine, and I wasnt using the BrokenModules=yenta_socket switch...thanks for any help!!

So, you upgraded from 9.3 to 10.0? Maybe something got screwed up in that process. How did you upgrade it, if so? Good luck!

I did a complete install... you see, I have a laptop, and everything works like s*** with it! I have the travelmate 8104 from Acer, Ive seen a lot of detailed tutorial with Ubuntu and gentoo, but cant follow what's written in them. And I like Suse a lot. With 9.3 it was working fine, the sound I mean, but now with 10.0 it doesnt. And the only thing Ive changed from 9.3 is the switch I had to put like I told you... Man you dont know how much Im lost in all this as I dont know a lot of things in Linux, but Im trying hard... Do you see anything that can be wrong in what I did/have?

Are you using OpenSuse or the retail Suse. If your using OpenSuse, I would say that your problems might be coming from that. OpenSuse doesn't have all the stuff as does the retail and there might be some drivers or something that are not included in it. Just a guess good luck. You could always go back to 9.3, unless for some reason you have to run 10.0. I'm running 9.2 on my Dell 700m, I love it.

Lol, I like linux, but sometimes its just too weird. I thought about going back to 9.3, but it wont boot after instalation saying some files access have been denied... anyways... I have the suse I downloaded from the mirror of Novell... its not opensuse, but I think Ill try the 10.1 to see what its worth... Thanks anyway for the effort, really kind from you!

Since it sounds like your doing a lot of installing and formatting of your drive it might be a good idea before your next install to write all zeros to the drive. Then format and all that stuff.

Done it already, and I dont think it changes a lot of things... Im out of options I guess... Thanks for everything!

I would start with that. I would start with finding out what that is saying and then go from there. Once you know what it is saying maybe you can find a solution. Or just go back to 9.3 . Good luck.
