how to configure python for idle (Tk)


Hello i have just downloaded python version 2.4.1 i want to run "idle" but i am getting an error message which says "your python may not be configured for TK can any body help me understand what this means please. because i dont know hw to configure it thanks nige.

do you have tcl/tk installed?

no i did not i googled for tcl/tk like you said and i am up and running now cheers mate i just assumed it would of all been there.

I have just installed python 3.1.3

I am getting the same error and i have tcl/tk installed..

Anyone got any suggestions ??

@ sparkyro, post #4 : Welcome to LQ.

Python 3 : Only to be used for creating Python3 applications.
It's a new thing, different from Python 2.x.
Python 3 cannot be used as a default Python.
The libraries to connect with it ( Like a Python3 tcl/tk ) do not exist.
Please use the default Python, that comes with Ubuntu. 2.6 or 2.7 ?


Another thing : Please do not use old threads for asking questions.
Please start a new thread, when you have a new question.

Thanks knudfl..

I have since started to use the 2.x python which works fine.. I just assumed I would be missing out not having the latest ?

Sorry for adding on to an old thread.. Im new to this and didnt realise.
