I'm assuming you mean an X server on your laptop that connects to your desktop so you can control your
Desktop from your laptop. This is easy, enable XDMCP on the desktop (gdmsetup if you are using GDM) and then from the laptop in an x server run
X -query 192.168.2.1xx :1
Note:Replace with the IP address with the one of your desktop.
Note:Two spaces between ip address and :1
When using a Linux desktop, you are using an x server. If you are using Computer B to control Computer A, the X server is actually running on Computer B and Computer A is running the X Client. It kind of seems backwards but it makes sense if you understand how X works.
If you are running a firewall on your desktop, make sure port 177 (for both tcp and udp) is open to your laptop. Also make sure XDMCP is running, by using the config tools specific to your distro.
