i noticed that the compiling method on kernel 2.6.6 is totally different with how we compile old kernels.......
old version:
cd /usr/src/linux
make menuconfig
make dep
make clean
make bzImage
make modules
cp /usr/Linux/src/arch/i386/boot/zImage /boot/newkernel
make modules_install
i have triend to apply steps above on kernel 2.6.6, but when i came to "make dep"....console showed a statement " make dep is unecessary now" ...any ideas? thanks a lot
linux is hard oh well, at least now that i should be able to get into my sata hdd's it will be more practable to say in linux, rebooting to get a html file or the like is kinda dumb...
hopefuly things will go well and i will only have to re-work the kernel once or twice
btw, do i need to make an initrd image for my promise sata controler? i dont think i do but then some people said it comes under scsi and some people said it didnt
