If you remove something humungus like kde and related luggage, you should see a big difference!
I run the command:
rpm -qa |sort >file.txt to get a good idea of what is installed. Then I use yum to remove things.
For example:
yum remove *-devel-*
After a big install or delete, I run these commands:
updatedb
depmod -a
yum clean all
I reboot and run the e2fsck -f /dev/hdb2 at boot time or from a livecd.
I check the results with the command:
df -h
