How to choose between KDE, GNome, WMaker
fyi.. COMPLETE NEWBIE, so please be kind and specific :)
I just downloaded WindowMaker, and installed it ok, but want to be able to choose between GNome, KDE, and Windowmaker when i login. Currently i am running Fedora 2. If this is not possible, can someone please tell me how to even get WindowMaker to run at all. Sorry for the lack of knowledge, still learning. Appreciate any help you can give |
At the log-in page, somewhere down on your screen should be an "session" button. Click it and choose KDE, Gnome or WindowMaker, then type your username and password as usual.
Hope this helped! Boby |
i cannot get Window Maker to show up in that list, sorry for not being more specific

Is Window Maker installed?
|
yes, followed the installation directions, but they dont tell you how to run it the way im talking about. those instructions only work if you boot up in text mode, and type exec wmaker ( i think ), i want to be able to choose between gnome, kde, wmaker.

Can this be of any help?
Else you can try this one, but I'n not sure if it works, just build it now :) Fedora uses a different setup. Instead of the dm-specific locations, it requires session files to be in /etc/X11/dm/Sessions. So, to get WM into session menu, create the file: /etc/X11/dm/Sessions/windowmaker.desktop and add this in it: [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=WindowMaker Type=Application Icon= Exec=wmaker You may need to put the full path to WM in the "Exec" line if it is in a non-standard location. You can also give execution right to the file: chmod +x /etc/X11/dm/Sessions/windowmaker.desktop Like I said before, I'm not sure if this works or if it can work! Just try it out ;) Boby |
doesnt look like it worked :( looked good though lol.
