how to check local mail with thunderbird

I would like to check my local linux system mail spool with thunderbird but I don't see any options for this. It looks like only pop and imap is allowed. does anyone know if I can check my local mail spool with thunderbird?
thanks

i believe you want to use a movemail account. when you go to add account, it is the third of four account types available to you (on my version 0.8 that is...)

I have version 0.6 installed from this rpm: thunderbird-0.6-0.fdr.5.1.i386. Yum says my system is up to date but I searched the dag repository and I see version 0.7 listed there. I think fdr packages come from the fedora.us repository ( I have both in my yum.conf file) Maybe there is a conflict? I might try to download thunderbird and install it manually.
cheers
