how to change the boot-screen-picture?
After trying the KDE/Xfce/Gnome desktops (by installing all three desktops in Ubuntu 8.10, what a great feature by the way!) I decided that Gnome still is the one for me.
So I removed the other two again (apt-get remove), and continued using Gnome without problems. There is only one tiny problem that I do not seem to be able to resolve: during boot, so after the boot menu and before Ubuntu is running, there is a Kubuntu screen display showing the load progress, which I would like to either change back to the Gnome screen display, or perhaps change to my own design.
Don't know where to look for this - any ideas anyone?
Thanks.

When you installed Kde..did you install kdm and choose it as your manager??if you did..did you also uninstall it when you uninstalled kde.It sounds like your using kdm as manager..if kdm has been uninstalled ..then just go into login manager and change it like other post said..

Thanks for your replies!
The only panel in Gnome I can find is to choose the login window (which in my case is set to Gnome, but not used anymore since I am the only user and therefor bypass the login screen).
I indeed think that when I installed KDE I also installed Kdm as manager, and did not uninstall it after removing the KDE desktop. So how can I do this, or reset this to Gnome?
Just to make sure we are talking about the same screen: the screen during Ubuntu boot which shows as text "(K)Ubuntu", and right underneath shows the boot-status-bar. Now of course there is absolutely no gain to changing this back to the Gnome screen other than just for the looks!, but I am just curious as how to do this.

Thank you!
That was exactly what I meant, and solved my problem. Great to be able to tune Ubuntu just the way you like it.
