How to change default Apache page?

I have apache installed...but in order to access index.html, I need to go to

mydomain.com/index.html directly
rather than just
mydomain.com

how do I fix this?

What page do you get when you request mydomain.com?

Probably, the order of values for DirectoryIndex directive in httpd.conf can fix that.

Ya, you need to change your httpd.conf file.

Look for the following entry

<IfModule mod_dir.c>
DirectoryIndex index.html index.php
</IfModule>

Make sure that it's uncommented and that both index.html and index.php exist (at least index.html if that's your index page).
If that entry doesn't exist then add it, restart apache and it should work.

that worked! thanks. It was uncommented, but didn't have index.php, so I added it, restarted. and voila.

Not now, John!,
I was getting the apache default page.
