How to catch 'live video stream' from SONY DCR HC40E camcoder using its USB port

I acquired a Camcorder Sony DCR-HC40(E). I am using fedora 5 with kernel 2.6.18. On my pc I only have a USB port .I can catch the pictures saved in the memory stick of camcorder . I would like also to catch the 'live video stream' from camcorders USB port.Under Windows it is feasible . And I would like to make it work on my linux os.If you have any idea about this please share with me

I'm not sure if I understand what you mean with 'live video stream'. Does it mean you want to use the camcorder as webcam ? Then it depends on if there is a webcam driver which works with the camcorder. What does 'lsusb' show when you have the camera connected ?
I don't know this camera, if you don't find info in the internet, you will probably have to do some trial and error with the webcam modules in /lib/modules..., but don't expect too much. My panasonic camcorder doesn't work as webcam as well.

what i need is to capture frames from camcorder through usb port. it's possible in windows. but for linux i haven't got any driver's for sony dcr hdc40e .
