How to best start XMMS

I am 100% new to linux and am learning so please be kind. I have successfully installed XMMS and can get it started from a terminal, but then must leave the terminal window open to use it. Is there another way to start the app? Please help. Thank you.

create a shortcut on your desktop or in the menu. before you ask how do you do that, tell us what window manager or desktop enviroment your using.

in terminal you should be able to execute something like :
nohup xmms &
and close the terminal after that, if you want to continue that way.
