How to back up boot sector?

I usually perform a quick Windows reinstall to avoid the long installation process: I restore a saved Windows partition image. The problem is that sometimes installation goes wrong and the Windows bootloader is deleted, so I have to reinstall it manually (this is quite problematic with an HP version, and the image doesn't include the bootloader).
I have 2 disks with several partitions. The most important ones:

/dev/hda9/ - Linux
/dev/hdb1/ - Windows
My machine boots from hda, by lilo

How do I save the Windows boot loader and is it in MBR?
