how to auto-shutdown Vbox Guest VM with VPN kill-switch

I'm using an excellent kill-switch to cover my arse, but I can't figure out how to get it to actually shutdown the Guest VM when the VPN connection goes down.
I believe this would work:
Code:
VBoxManage controlvm "slackware" savestate
but I can't figure out how to get the kill switch to do that. Vbox itself will shut down if I add it to the list, but not the VM. Is there a way to set up Vbox so that if it closes, the VM will too?

The Vbox forums themselves have just left me more confused...

I'm using "VPN Lifeguard" - which wonderfully shuts down up to 6 programs, but I'll quite happily use a different switch if I have to.

Turned out to be some sort of vbox issue.
I exported the machine, removed and reinstalled vbox, imported the machine, and now there's no issues.

Thanks anyways for looking.
