How ping know IP address of a given website?

Hi,
I'm pretty new to networking stuff.
Can some one help me in understanding how Ping translates given website address into corresponding IP address?
Where is this table stored and how it gets updated when new websites are created?
Thanks in advance,
Venu

It's not a table, it's a Dynamic Name System server, DNS, that is used to translate www.some.thing.com into the actual numeric address. Go take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_server for an article explaining it.

Hope this helps some.

However you are using the wrong tools.

dig and nslookup are two common ways to translate a FQDN to an IP address.

Ping is a poor tool. It is blocked more and more and not really a good choice to use.

You might store some locally but most times the ip is requested from a server each time you make a tool request. A tool may include a web browser or tools like wget or telnet or such.
