how much RAM should I set up Virtualbox for?

Having just installed Virtualbox, I want to set it up for Windows XP. Should I go with its recommendation of 192 MB? Is that a minimum? I have 1.75 GB available--I think.

I run it with 512MB; it runs well. I used to run it with 256MB, and if you had more than one app open, it ran like a dog. Give it as much as you can afford, leaving enough for your host OS.

Check how much RAM you actually have before you try, otherwise you're host will be swapping like mad, and everything will be incredibly slow.

Okay, I'll try 512. I know I have 2 GB RAM, with 1.75 GB available.

512 is fine for XP and the 1.2 GB remaining is more than enough for Linux.

i think 512 is OK for XP,if you give some less amount of memory, it'll do heavy swapping/hell of disk I/O and and it'll be good for nothing...
