How does one change which repoitory yum looks to...

My ultamate goal is to use vuze P2P (formally azureus)

I have brought it down and done the usual configure, make, make install but
when I attempt to run it complains about my version of Java.

[root@alpha vuze]# ./vuze
Starting Azureus...
Java is GCJ.. looking for Sun Java..
Java exec not found in PATH, starting auto-search...
ls: /usr/java/latest: No such file or directory
ls: /usr/java: No such file or directory
ls: /usr/lib/jvm/latest: No such file or directory
Java exec found in /usr/lib/jvm/jre-gcj/bin/
Java is GCJ.. looking for Sun Java..

Most sites that I have visited have informed me or suggested that the
magic is with...

#yum install java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin

Fair enough.
I have used 'yum' several times w/out issue in the past.

However,
when I attempt to issue the above 'yum install' command I recieve...

Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Red Hat Linux 4 - i386 - Base
retrygrab() failed for:
http://mirror.dulug.duke.edu/pub/yum.../redhat/4/i386
/headers/header.info.............

The solar-system knows that Duke Univerity is there...
A ping shows that DNS resolves but the particular box seems to be down
(several days now)

So how does one change which repoitory yum looks to ???

Thank you in advance for any help!

BTW, I have diffrent suggestion

1) download sun java
- mkdir /usr/java
- install here

2) cd /usr/bin
-- make symlink to java
- mv java java.old
- ln -s /usr/java/jre1.yourversion/bin/java java

note , change the correct jre1 version

about yum try first yum clean all

Thank you.

I will attempt the sun java download that you suggested but I jumped to your 'yum clean all' suggestion 1st as I might need a functional yum utility in the furture.

When I run 'yum clean all' to eliminate cached packages and headers from the system I receive...

[root@alpha ~]# yum clean all
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Red Hat Linux 4 - i386 - Base
Error - /var/cache/yum/base/header.info cannot be found
Please run yum in non-caching mode to correct this header.

As I understand it 'yum clean' does run in a non-caching mode and issued 'yum list' to get the header.info file(s)

I then receive...

[root@alpha ~]# yum list
Gathering header information file(s) from server(s)
Server: Red Hat Linux 4 - i386 - Base
retrygrab() failed for:
http://mirror.dulug.duke.edu/pub/yum...rs/header.info
Executing failover method
failover: out of servers to try
Error getting file http://mirror.dulug.duke.edu/pub/yum...rs/header.info
[Errno 4] IOError: <urlopen error >

BTW this is a FC4/RHEL4 (2.6.11 kernel) 'box set' install from Chris Negus' Bible of a few years back. My apologies for not specifying earlier.

Again, any input is greatly welcomed.

FYI,RHEL4 and FC4 is not same , and FC4 no longer repository supported
mean end of life.

could your do this

> cat /etc/redhat-release

and

> ls /etc/yum.repos.d/

one more thing just optional

> ping -c 4 google.com

give all the output
