Personally I visit many sites that require Flash and they require Flash 8 in order to work. It is getting to a point now where all the nice multimedia broadband sites use it. Is there any other alternative to get around it? Not to mention that Macromedia will not even maintain their site anymore, the link for Flash 7.0 no longer even works.
Checked the website of Macromedia. The most recent version of flashplayer seems to be 7.0.63.0. Do you need version 8.0? By the way, Macromedia seems to be taken over by Adobe.
I downloaded flashplayer and went to install as directed by site and got error;
Your architecture, \'x86_64\', is not supported by the
Macromedia Flash Player installer.
Any suggestions?

You're running a 64-bit version of Linux
Macromedia haven't (and apparently have no plans as yet to) released a 64-bit flash player.
They're working on flash player 8.5 at the moment, but it's only in pre-release stages as far as I can see.
So, blame them
Does anybody follow the Flash enviroment enough to know if 8.0 will be making its way to the Linux world anytime soon?
As I said above... Macromedia are working on version 8.5 for linux.
It's still in pre-release at the moment, but I'd assume by the version number that it's version 8 compatable.
According to some recent news articles, version 8.0 for linux is being skipped completely to work on 8.5 and 9.0 (Which will apparently have 64-bit support).
As for this:

You will need to run the 32 bit version of the browser you are using first of all. To install this afterwards you can just edit the installer script, and find the "exit_cpu()" function and comment out the line that says "exit 1" by putting a # in front of the line (This should be around like 47).

Do you know how far in development they are and are they releasing beta versions for public trial?
