how do you use apt and synaptic


I just downloaded and installed apt and synaptic and want to use it to install mplayer on my compter. can somebody please give me a crash course on how to use it or refer me to a webpage that explains how to use it.

In synaptic, click "Update List" (upper left) then type "mplayer" into the search field (upper right). Then select the packages you want, and click "Install." Finally, when you've selected all the packages you want, hit "Proceed" (upper middle).
