How do you run xine as a daemon?

I have a .lircrc that calls xine via irexec. It uses the mode function to alternate between tv mode and xine mode. In order for it to work, I need to run xine as a daemon as the mode=xine option is immediately after the call to irexec. I tried "xine &" but xine does not completely daemonize, instead it requires me to press the enter key once in order to relinquish the prompt. Because of this the mode=xine option does not get run and hence the remote is not able to control xine. In tv mode, irexec calls mythfrontend & and it relinquishes the prompt. How do you make xine do this? Thanks

well that's not running as a daemon at all, just sitting in the background, which is not the same thing. i'd say you'd be better off using "nohup xine" as that will run it outside of a terminal anyway.
