How do you compile things in Slitaz?

Good morning,. i just started using Slitaz instead of Arch,. its a bit of a culture shock but I like the KISS attitude and the fact that they keep things small.

My problem arises from the use of busybox. There are quite a few things that I do that require me to use the GNU versions of grep and sed. So I grabbed the source and started to compile it. But it seems that Slitaz uses its own custom GCC compiler.

How do I go about getting a usable GNU/Llinux compatible build environment on Slitaz? Has anyone done this? OR what is the easiest way on Slitaz to replace busybox with its actual real-world counterparts?

Thank you.

" go back to basics"
building code 101

first you really do not YET want to use gcc4.9
stick with 4.7 or 4.8

then some source code also needs OLDER versions so gcc 4.1 and 3.4 are nice to have installed

then make sure that "auto tools" are installed
( auto configure, automake , package configure ,...)
the m4 macros are a pain in the "bleep" sometimes
so use the tools FOR your distro

then check if things are working using any of the hundreds of "hello world" c,c++ tutorials

for the program you need to build
read the README and INSTALL and any guides on the program's website

if you are using gnome or GTK based desktop ( or even if you are not and using KDE)
then building and installing "The Gimp" and if needed the prerequisites
is a good check for everything being set up
and to learn HOW to build from source
-- there are a TON of guides help forums and just plain help for the Gimp
